Bumblebee millipedes (Anadenobolus monilicornis) are a popular invertebrate pet due to their striking yellow and black bands. They are native to the Caribbean but have been introduced to other areas, including the southeastern United States. They are small, typically reaching about 2.5-3 inches in length.
Substrate: They are detritivores, meaning they primarily feed on decaying organic material. The substrate should be a deep mix (at least 4-6 inches) of rotten hardwood leaves, decaying hardwood, and some soil. Avoid coconut coir/fiber as it's not nutritious and can cause impaction.
* Temperature: Room temperature is often sufficient, ideally between 20-24°C (68-75°F). If your home is cooler, a low-wattage heat mat can be used, but ensure it doesn't dry out the enclosure.
* Humidity: Maintain 70-80% humidity. You can achieve this by misting the enclosure daily or pouring water into one side of the substrate.
* Diet: Their main diet comes from their substrate (decaying leaves and wood). Flake soil should be used even if it's just mixed in with other soil.
